Vintage Photographs

Category:General,Organizing,Uncategorised

A picture is worth a thousand words. This maxim sure applies to family photographs. Just to see the background in the photo, the season, the clothing, and the people can evoke a strong memory to bring you back to the very day it was taken. And prompt a story about that day or event.

Streamlining your Clothes Closet

Streamlining your Clothes Closet

This photo is a “Before Photo” of a clothes closet, maybe it looks a bit like yours. Are you ready to open your clothes closet and make some decisions? Scared to create a bunch of clothing piles and not complete the process? Then maybe you want to consider these organizing tips to get started and staying on track.

The main principle I recommend is to work for set periods of time per organizing session, for example 3 hours maximum. It is important to include the tidy-up and put-away tasks into this block of time. By working within a schedule, we can have enough time to get through a good amount of clothes without getting totally overwhelmed and exhausted

Buy New Furniture or Bring the Old Stuff?

Category:General,Moving,Uncategorised Tags :

When a senior downsizes from a house to a senior residence, a much smaller living space, there are positive opportunities for change.

For a downsizing contract, one of the first steps I take is to measure each room at the new location and then return to the home to identify what furniture the client wants to move based on preference and the fit into the new floor plan.

Food Storage Containers

Category:General,Organizing,Uncategorised Tags :

Part of why I like working in my kitchen is because my kitchen pantry is well organized. At a glance I can see what food items I have  through the clear plastic and glass containers. I also use labels to identify the items, such as flour, sugar, dry beans and such. For efficiency, smaller food items can also be stored together in one container to facilitate easier storage.

While this makes food preparation easier, I’m careful about the use of plastics and have listed the following common safety tips for your reference:

Table Settings with Crystal Glassware

Category:General,Organizing,Uncategorised Tags :

Crystal glassware and china are two categories of stuff that I see a lot in the homes I’m called to help declutter and organize. Most times, the crystal is either on display in cabinets, housed in a cupboard that is rarely opened, or in boxes inherited from a family member or left unopened after a move.

Often times, people might “intend” to use their crystal for special occasions. So maybe they are used twice a year, if at all. I suggest on making a decision one way or another. Either keep them and use them to enjoy their beauty, or donate them to a grateful recipient or charity. Either way, they can be enjoyed.

Think about meal times and treating yourself to the beauty of crystal for yourself and your family. Everyday can be a “‘special occasion”.

Organized Shopping

Category:General,Organizing,Uncategorised

What is the state of your closet?

For some of us, we have enough clothes to open our own stores. Yet according to the Pareto Principle, we typically use only 20% of what we own. This being said, 80% of our stuff is basically available for viewing only. Or is it? Let’s talk.

A debt-free shopping spree? Possible? Yes, and benefit from every penny spent, especially on clothes. To be satisfied with your shopping long-term, you may find the following steps helpful in getting yourself an excellent wardrobe.

Home Staging – What’s the Cost?

Category:General,Home Staging,Uncategorised

By Lori Matzke ~ Used with special permission

When you contact a home stager, ask for an estimate. Most home staging businesses will be happy to give you a free estimate and it is usually a quick process. Keep in mind that this is only an estimate and estimates can be a bit off. However, unless something unforeseen takes place between the estimate and the actual job itself, an estimate should be fairly accurate.

Organizing Ideas to Simplify Your Move

Category:General,Moving,Uncategorised

Organize at both ends of the move

Think about where in your new home your possessions will go before you even begin packing. Take stock of the existing storage spaces in the new home you have chosen. If you can’t easily see your possessions fitting into the space, speak with your professional organizer to help you find the best storage solution provider for your needs. Together you can discuss whether custom made storage or cabinetry/shelving is an option to consider.
